Happy May! Students in grades K-1 are almost done publishing their animal research projects. To complete their research they used “PebbleGo” and “Little Bird Tale”. PebbleGo is a district purchased program and is available for student use in school and at home. You can find it at http://rsd17libraries.weebly.com/,under student resources. Students in grade 2 are continuing their research using Pebble Go, Kiddle.Co, http://www.kiddle.co, (a kid-safe search engine) and Book Creator, which is a publishing app. Over the past few weeks, students in grades 3 and 4 were taught how to write citations for a web page and a web article. They explored two excellent “free’ websites for their work: dogonews.com and http://kids.sandiegozoo.org/animals. They also discovered how advertisers often edit images to lure us into buying products. The McDonald hamburger on the commercial rarely looks like the one we get in the bag! Students partnered up and used editing tools in iphoto to explore how easy it is to modify images. Many students in grades 2-4 voted on a favorite Nutmeg nominee. Two clear favorites were Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson and Star Stuff by Stephanie Roth Sisson.
